Bets of the Day: Easterby's charge will appreciate the step back up in trip

Dance King is 1lb lower than his last winning mark

No luck for Alan yesterday but he has two more for today from the afternoon meeting at Catterick and the evening all weather meeting at Wolverhampton...

"when he last run in this class and over this trip he found his way to the winners enclosure"

Back Dance King @ 3/1 in the 13:25 at Catterick

Dance King can waltz into the winners enclosure

Catterick 13:25

Tim Easterby runs his eight-year-old chestnut Dance King in this Class 4 Handicap, despite his last win being in June at Musselburgh he is now 1lb below that winning mark and this is an easier task than his Musselbugh win.

Despite slowly dropping back down the handicap he has been running well without getting his head in front mainly in Class 3 company. He is versatile regarding the ground having won in the past on good to firm and heavy going, so whatever the weather brings (forecast is for light showers) it shouldn't be a worry for him. His last four races have all been over a shorter trip than this and the step back up should be very much to his liking, when he last run in this class and over this trip he found his way to the winners enclosure.

The main danger appears to be the worthy favourite, Ivan Furtado's Illustrissime who has clearly improved after his recent wind operation. He won well here over course and distance last time but that was a major surprise, he was a 25/1 chance that day and I would find it hard to back him at 9/4 with a 4lb rise in the weights to overcome. So while he is respected on his second start after the operation I will take Dance King to get his head in front.

Cosmogyral can outclass these

Wolverhampton 18:45

Dominic Ffrench Davis has an interesting runner at Wolverhampton tonight. His three-year-old well bred filly Cosmogyral ran her best race to date and took a big step forward when beaten just a neck into second last time out on her second start back from a break. She is a daughter of Camelot and I am sure when connections bought her (120,000 guineas as a yearling in 2015) they would have been expecting something a bit better than a 52-rated runner.

The step up in trip shouldn't cause her any problems and she has the cheek pieces on again that appeared to help her last time out. She can start to fulfil some of that pedigree and cost by winning this low grade contest.
