Count on Otto back at Epsom
15:15 Epsom - Back Count Otto @ 6.05/1
Backing horses with previous course form around Epsom worked the trick yesterday with C'Est No Mour, and I am hoping we can double the win tally on the downs with Count Otto.
He is well up to winning at this 0-90 level, in fact, his course and distance victory earlier in the summer came in a 0-95 so this represents a slightly easier grade. That win in July showed the way to race around here, he was cajoled and a little outpaced with just one behind when the pack came down Tattenham Corner and into the straight, but he motored home out wide to win nicely.
He didn't run too badly either at Newmarket last time and he races from the same mark again of 90 for this.
Count Otto acts on quick ground and stays 7f, but today's trip is absolutely ideal with his potent turn of foot a weapon.
Defender has a chance of bouncing back to form
16:05 Ripon - Back Dark Defender @ 13.5
We stick again with the same two tracks as Bank Holiday Monday, although conditions could be slightly different in Yorkshire as thunderstorms and showers are forecast. It's a big if, but if there is rain (hopefully there is plenty), I am making Rebecca Bastiman's Dark Defender a bet in a good sprint at 16:05.
Firstly, he is a bit unreliable and in-and-out, but's that the way these 5f and 6f horses are. The price on the Exchange last night of 13.50 more than compensates for any worries about his erratic profile.
However, on his day, he's pretty useful. He won over course and distance in May fairly comfortably by three lengths - crucially making the running from his high draw. Hopefully he can get away from five quick enough here.
Dark Defender is back down to a mark of 83, and he can certainly win from that rating.
