16:30 Ffos Las - Back Authorized Too @ 3/1

The softer conditions will make this stayers contest a huge test of stamina and that should fall right into the hands of Authorized Too, the 122 rated hurdler who returned to form on the flat when winning easily in a two mile handicap at Kempton earlier this month. The handicapper has raised him 4lbs as a result but that doesn't look like a burden that will stop the Noel Williams-trained six-year-old from going in again on his return to the turf. The rain softened ground will also be to his advantage, he was only beaten a neck at Towcester in similar conditions, he stays further over hurdles and will see out this trip no problem.

Nabhan is the current favourite and he also won last time out, but he looks vulnerable under a 6lb penalty and I don't think the step up in trip will be to his benefit. His one win on the flat was two furlongs shorter than this and he has never won off a mark this high, whenever he has run off this mark or higher he has always been a double figure price and not even made the frame. Unless he has improved considerably he looks like a bit of a false favourite to me and I am happy take him on today.

15:15 Musselburgh - Back Economic Crisis @ 9/2

The summer weather across the UK is often harder to predict than the winners. While we have soft ground at Ffos Las it's quite the opposite at Musselburgh and the reported good to firm ground should play right into the hands of Colin Teague's mare Economic Crisis. Her last two wins have both been on this course and both have come on this surface. She is returning to defend her crown after winning this race last season albeit off a five pound lower mark, but she's been running well off higher marks of late and looks dangerous under Paul Mulerennan.

Last time out she suffered defeat at the hands of Silvanus who she faces again today. However, this time Economic Crisis is 3lbs better off for a three-quarters-of-a-length defeat and conditions will be much more suited to her than Silvanus. She looks like the one to beat to me with all factors in her favour.
