Bets of the Day: Staying Cool and Calm should be enough to Collect at Chelmsford

Alan Thompson has two selections from Chelmsford City's evening card, one in the opener and one in the lucky last...

"A £67k yearling who as a three-year-old won at Sandown off a mark of 65 with a fair bit in hand"

Back Coolcalmcollected @ 2/1 in the 18:10 Chelmsford

18:10 Chelmsford - Coolcalmcollected @ 2/1

Coolcalmcollected is a horse I have been tracking for a while now and even wrote about her in this column almost a year ago (see here). She was a £67k yearling purchase and the Acclamation filly started life with Chris Wall, where as a three-year-old she won making all at Sandown off a mark of 65 and won with a fair bit in hand. She was then raised to 70 and only failed to make all at Kempton in the final strides.

Since then though she has been on a steady decline, she moved to Andrew Crook and seemed to completely lose her way, but a recent move to the first-season trainer David Laughnane yard may have allowed her to rediscover some of that early promise.

On her first start for the Laughnane yard she ran a decent third of 15 in a seven furlong handicap at Catterick 11 days ago. I think she could be starting to show signs of a return to form, today she runs off the same mark as last time (52) and has P J Mcdonald in the plate, who has a decent 26% strike rate from his 19 mounts for the yard.

20:40 Chelmsford - Gunner Moyne @ 7/2

The final race of the day sees Gary Moore bring his four-year-old colt Gunner Moyne back to Chelmsford City where he is looking to maintain his 100% record at the track. He won back-to-back races here at the turn of the year over a mile and clearly likes the track. His last start was at Kempton and was over two furlongs longer than tonight's trip, I am sure the drop back to 10 furlongs and the application of a first time visor will be to his advantage.

Apprentice at the Gary Moore yard is Hector Crouch who gets the leg up today, he is a very capable jockey who has been in good form. He has ridden four winners from his last eight mounts and his 5lb claim will come in very handy tonight.
