Bets of the Day: Richard Fahey's filly Illusions can make a wining start in handicap company

Coming out the stalls
The Nursery at Carlisle looks an intriguing contest

Alan had a winner and a very close second yesterday which traded 1.061/18 in running. For his final day in the tipping chair this week he has two more selections to finish in style...

Illusions to make some magic at Carlisle

Richard Fahey's charge Illusions may well have tricked the handicapper after running her best race to date when fourth in a novice race at Haydock last time out, the front two in that race have both since come out and won. Fahey's two-year-old filly now makes her handicap debut on what could be a potentially lenient mark if she can reproduce that Haydock form albeit now in much softer conditions.

Dream Poet from the Jedd O'Keeffe yard looks the one to beat, the progressive colt who won a novice race at Beverley last time out. Also making his handicap debut from what looks a fair opening mark and there could still be more improvement to come on grass. There isn't much between the two but the form of Illusions last run is working out very well and preference is for her to win today.

Moorlands George showed enough to win this on his latest effort

Moorlands George produced a superb run last time out after returning from a 529 day break, he finished second at Wincanton in April, beaten just two lengths. He's only two pounds higher here and his stamina is assured in a race where others have to prove they will stay.

This is also his first run since wind surgery and he's a very interesting contender for a yard who have been amongst the winners recently. He has had another decent break (139 days) but always goes well fresh, three of his last four wins have all come after a decent break (53, 57 and 130 days).

The one he will have to beat is the market principle Mercers Court, he got back in the winners enclosure at Worcester eight days ago. Like Moorlands George he should have no problems with the trip and he always jumps well. However, he has picked up a 7lb penalty for that latest win and that should make this tougher for him to dominate from the front.
