Alan is looking to finish his week in the tipping chair on a high with his final two selections from the all-weather meetings at Lingfield and Chelmsford City...
"I can't believe connections would be running Muffri'Ha if they didn't think she was capable of winning this"
There are two Listed races on the Lingfield card today but it is the £40,000 Fleur De Lys that I am more interested in and in particular the William Haggas charge Muffri'Ha. Haggas dropped the filly into handicap company earlier this month after many attempts at trying to get her in front in Listed and Group company had all failed. However, her win in that handicap at Newmarket seems to have sparked a new lease of life for her, she returned to HQ a week later and took the £45k Group 3 Darley stakes.
Muffri'Ha was all set to hang her hooves up and retire but connections have now decided to keep her in training in a bid to go to the All Weather Championships next year. A win here today will book her place in the those lucrative races next spring.
If she is going to win this she will have to do it off top weight and the obvious danger is Miss En Rose who is getting 8lbs from the selection, because of her Group 3 penalty - if this were a handicap Miss En Rose would only be receiving 3lbs making her 5lbs better off. But I can't believe connections would be running Muffri'Ha if they didn't think she was capable of winning this.
The Feathered Nest was well backed on her debut in a maiden at York, running well to finish third in a decent contest. The two-year-old filly will improve for that run and unless one of the three unraced runners in the field are well above this standard then she should take all the beating. Richard Fahey's team are going well, saddling four winners and four placed horses on the all weather over the last two weeks.
If any of the newcomers can stop her then it could be the Godolphin runner, Sunlit Forest, who is bred to effective on synthetic surfaces out of a Grade 1 winner in the USA. The market will give away many of the clues before the off but at the prices currently available, I would rather be on the once-raced Fahey horse.
