Bets of the Day: Almost Gemini to maintain his Sedgefield record

Its rare for the Slack team leave Sedgefield empty handed
Its rare for the Slack team leave Sedgefield empty handed

Alan was a bit unlucky as his best bet of the day yesterday (an each-way selection) finished a running on fourth by a nose at an SP of 12/1. Today, for his final day in the chair he has selections from Sedgefield and Leicester...

"He has been a winner over hurdles three times since joining Kenneth Slack's yard last season, including both starts at this track"

19:30 Sedgefield - Almost Gemini @ 4/1 Sportsbook

Kenneth Slack will bring his seven-year-old gelding Almost Gemini on the short journey from Cumbria to Durham for this Class 4 handicap hurdle. The Slack team are no strangers to the winners enclosure at Sedgefield with a 48% win rate from their last 31 runners.

He hasn't been seen on a jumps course since March, but he has ran twice on the flat, the latest run at Musselburgh in June. He has been a winner over hurdles three times since joining the Slack yard last season, including both starts at this track.

I am not worried about the lack of recent hurdle runs, he goes well fresh, winning last year after over 400 days off the course. He has been a very consistent performer over hurdles, with 14 career starts he has won or been placed in 50% of his races. I think he will go very close again and is worth siding with at 4/1.

15:10 Leicester - Ariena @ 5/2 Sportsbook

Ariena may have to carry top weight on her debut in handicap company but her rating of 80 could be very lenient. Clive Cox's juvenile has improved in each of her starts so far, and there looks like there is still more to come.

The form of her Chepstow maiden win has been franked by the fifth coming out and winning earlier this month and prior to that victory, she was second beaten just over two lengths behind Madame Dancealot who was deemed good enough to run in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and the Juddmonte Stakes.

Adam Kirby is on board and is in good form, ridding a winner for the Cox stable in the finale at Kempton last night (the race yesterday's bet of the day was in). Providing she can reproduce the form shown in her maidens, I expect her to be difficult to beat today.
