Alan's best bet of the day went in yesterday and the other selection added to the number of seconds this week. For his final day in the chair he has selections from the evening meetings at Epsom and Doncaster...
"As a three-year-old he ran fifth in the Irish 2000 Guineas and ran in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot."
David (Dandy) Nichols' gelding Big Time has been putting in some decent efforts lately, finishing second in three of his last four starts. He is yet to deliver the promise that he showed as a juvenile when trained by John Murphy in Ireland, where he won on his debut at Naas before finishing runner-up twice in group company.
Those achievements gave him an official rating of 114 when he returned as a three-year-old where he ran fifth in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and ran in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.
He is now running off a mark of 88 and if he has retained any of that earlier ability he could be ready to strike tonight at Epsom. It is the only horse the Nichols team are sending down to Epsom from North Yorkshire and it is Royston Ffrench's only ride of the evening.
Rookie trainer George Scott runs Cacica in the final race of the day at Doncaster. The filly is well bred and was originally an expensive purchase for Lady Bamford and trained by Richard Hannon but after failing to break her maiden tag she was sold to new owners and moved to George Scott. Since then she has ran twice at Brighton and Haydock managing to get placed once.
She is stepping up in trip tonight to 12 furlongs, in her last two starts she has looked like the extra two furlongs won't hurt her. Reunited with William Twiston-Davies and with conditions to suit, she could finally get her first win at her sixth attempt.
