Bets of the Day: Tailor's Row can have this sewn up early
Alan was a short head away from a nice profit yesterday, as his each-way selection Shraaoh just failed to get his head in front at Goodwood. Today he has two fancies at Chester and Market Rasen...
"Despite being a late April foal, he is a big physical horse and providing he gets out he should prove difficult to pass."
Mark Johnston's Tailor's Row is ideally drawn in stall one for this six furlong Nursery at Chester. Since winning on his racecourse debut at Chelmsford, the colt then put in a disappointing display at Newcastle but then ran well finishing third at York in his first attempt in handicap company. That last run at York saw him finish half a length behind In First Place who he faces again today. However, In First Place has it all to do today, drawn six of eight over six furlongs at this tight Chester track.
Franny Norton is in the plate again today and I would expect him to get Tailor's Row out in front. Despite the selection being a late April foal, he is a big physical horse and providing he gets out he should prove difficult to pass.
Play the Ace ran his first race for Peter Bowen in a two mile five furlong chase at Stratford just over a month ago. He was well backed that day, going off 5/4 favourite, but was narrowly beaten by the 13-year-old veteran Cruchain, who he re-opposes today - the two pulled 15 lengths clear of the third placed horse.
Play the Ace has won six point to points but only one of his four starts under rules, that win though was over today's trip. I think the drop back in distance will play to his advantage and with the trainer's son, Sean Bowen getting the leg up, I fully expect to see the Bowen family taking their place in the winners' enclosure.
