Alan's best bet of the day found the winners enclosure at Doncaster yesterday, today he has two more from Aintree and Wincanton...
"He was impressive at Hereford coming home nine lengths ahead of the field and looks like chasing could well be his game"
Drovers Lane can defy the handicapper
Rebecca Curtis runs her six-year-old Drovers Lane at Aintree today after making a winning chasing debut at Hereford earlier this month. He wasn't a bad hurdler to be fair, winning two of his five starts over the lower obstacles but he was impressive at Hereford coming home nine lengths ahead of the field and it looks like chasing could well be his game, so there could be any amount of progress left to come. He will have to defy an 8lb rise in the weights but he looks an out and out stayer and the one to be on today.
Reigning Supreme is next in the betting but he is not one to be trusted having only completed one of his three starts over fences. However, if he can reproduce the form that carried him to second at Newbury in February he could be a threat. I wouldn't be concerned about the time off the track, 229 days, as he has won before after being away for over 300 so he obviously goes well fresh but his jumping ability is more of a concern and for that reason my preference is for the improving Drovers Lane.
Arty Campbell can make it back-to-back wins
Arty Campbell got back to winning ways at Hereford last time out and despite an 8lb rise he looks to have a good chance of making it back-to-back wins for the first time in his career. He has scored at this track on his only other visit and with conditions ideal again, he loves fast ground, I think he can follow up. Bernard Llewellyn's charge will have to put in a career best to win off this mark but it doesn't look the toughest of races.
Bubble O'Clock may well be lightly raced and open to improvement but hasn't been within 18 lengths of a winner yet. He has been running in novice hurdles so the move to handicap company may well help him but it's hard to be confident about him. Next in the market is Dovils Date, he hasn't won over hurdles since September 2016 but that did come from 17lb higher mark. He shouldn't have any problems with the trip or conditions but he is hard to back on his 2018 form. Cahill is the one that could give the selection the most to do, he ran by far his best race for this yard when third over course and distance last time out and the fast ground suits him well. But I don't see any of them stopping Arty Campbell going in again today.
