Bets of the Day: Copt Hill in familiar surroundings at Sedgfield

Its been a long wait but today could provide Copt Hill with his second win
Its been a long wait but today could provide Copt Hill with his second win

Alan was successful for the second day in a row when his best bet of the day went in again yesterday at Carlisle. Today his selections go at Sedgefield and Plumpton...

"Tracy Waggott's eight-year-old gelding has been showing some signs of promise lately. In his last race, again here at Sedgefield, he finished second behind Roxyfleet who has subsequently come out and won again as well as the fourth."

It has certainly been a long time since Copt Hill managed to get his head in front on a racecourse, his one and only win from 31 starts was at this course January 2011. However, Tracy Waggott's eight-year-old gelding has been showing some signs of promise lately. In his last race, again here at Sedgefield, he finished second behind Roxyfleet who has subsequently come out and won again as well as the fourth. Roxyfleet and Copt Hill were 11 lengths clear of the third home that day.

The handicapper has raised him two pounds for that run but he should still be very competitive of his mark of 82. Brian Hughes (who did well for me yesterday) gets the leg up again and he knows him very well. I think its about time Copt Hill got some return for some very decent runs lately, and in this contest, at this course where he has ran in almost half of his races, he looks to have everything in place - at 9/2 he looks a decent price.

17:10 Plumpton - Tour Des Champs @ 8/1 Each Way Sportsbook

Nigel Twiston-Davies runs Tour Des Champs in this class three, three and a half mile chase, back in December he won over three miles staying on at the finish. Unfortunately, since then he has failed to deliver being pulled up on his next start and then finishing fourth on his next two appearances.

Those last three performances though have reset his mark back to just one pound above that win in December. In the past this horse has not looked out of place in his Cheltenham festival runs (three times he's run at the festival). If he can rediscover something close to that December form, it could be good enough to win this and should certainly give him strong place chances at 8/1 he looks a good each way proposition to me.
