Western Morning will appreciate the step up in trip
Exeter 16:55
Western Morning is lightly raced over fences. This will be the six-year-old's third start over the larger obstacles, after winning on his chasing debut back in February over a furlong further than he is going today and has built on that with a close second at Taunton earlier this month.
That second was over two miles and he was doing his best work at the end of the race, coming from off the pace but was never going to get to the leader in time. Today he goes up another three furlongs and that will only help his case, Milton Harris's charge is only 2lb higher today and with further improvement expected in this sphere over a better trip, he looks tough to beat.
Ericas Lad is certainly an interesting contender and looks like it will be the one that will give the selection the most to do.
He was a comfortable winner over slightly shorter here on Monday despite running off a mark that put him 5lb out of the handicap. He certainly demands respect and although he gets a 7lb rise in the weights for that win he is effectively only running off a mark 2lb higher today. I think one of them wins the race but my preference today is for Western Morning to continue his progress over fences.
Magic Of Milan can step up on her chasing debut and go one place better
Carlisle 17:10
I really think the step up in trip will be ideal for Magic Of Milan, she made a very pleasing chasing debut when finishing second over 2m5f at this venue just a couple of weeks ago. She made plenty of late progress that day after being badly outpaced early on, and stepping up to this trip should see sufficient improvement from this lightly raced six-year-old for her to be involved in the business end of the race.
Young Yorkshire trainer Sam Drake's mare is bred for bigger and better things in this sphere and I think she can get that winning feeling started today.
Solid Strike for the Paul Collins team looks the one that will probably give the selections the most to do. Brian Hughes is in the plate and the horse looked good when scoring by four lengths over two and half miles at Hexham last time out. He is running off a mark 5lbs today and that might just be enough to stop the 11-year-old as when he has run off mark above 100 in the past he has struggled.
