Bets of the Day: Whatzdjazz can make it three course and distance wins at Worcester

Horse jumping a hurdle
Whatzdjazz can defy a 3lb rise in the weights

After Royal Ascot it is back to the normal racing fixture list for Alan Thompson and he has two selections from Worcester and Pontefract for today...

"with conditions ideal and the Skelton team in good form I think she is worth an investment"

Back Whatzdjazz @ 9/2 in the 15:40 Worcester

15:40 Worcester - Back Whatzdjazz @ 9/2

The feature race of the day at Worcester is the two mile four furlong Class 2 handicap at 15:40 and there is a field of 10 going to post looking to claim the £12.5k prize. It's a competitive race as you would expect but I quite like the chances one of Dan Skelton's runners in the race Whatdjazz (he also runs High Secret). She's a two time course and distance winner who ran very well in defeat to Cool Sky at Aintree on her latest outing, however she is getting a 5lb turn around with that rival today and she's going to be much better returning to a venue she obviously enjoys.

The six-year-old mare enjoys the sun on her back winning three of her first four starts over hurdles last summer, with conditions ideal and the Skelton team in good form I think she is worth an investment at 9/2.

16:30 Pontefract - Back Excellent Times @ 13/8

This contest should be going to Tim Easterby's charge Excellent Times, who produced a career best effort when second in Class 2 company at York nine days ago. This three-year-old filly is only 3lbs higher here and dropped in grade, last time she ran in this grade she was only narrowly beaten by a decent type. Her only win to date came at Redcar last autumn but she has been progressive since then and been placed in three of her four starts this season. She is short enough in this small field and I would not want to be backing her much shorter but she looks like the one to beat here.

Richard Fahey's Crotchet looks to be the main danger, but she has been unable to add to her debut victory from August 2017 in five starts since. Her latest second over course and distance was certainly a step in the right direction though and this race isn't much tougher. She's drawn well and also has a 3lb rise in the weights to carry. I just think Excellent Times has the beating of her today but she would certainly be the forecast option.
