Bets of the Day: Pawn Star can put on a show

Pawn Star may still be ahead of the handicapper
Pawn Star may still be ahead of the handicapper

Alan had another winning day yesterday when his bet of the day Rivet took the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster, today the action is over the jumps and he has two selections from Aintree...

"He was so impressive when winning at Exeter last time out being eased down to win by seven lengths..."

16:25 Aintree - Back Pawn Star @ 7/2

I feel like I am not just taking on the other runners but also the handicapper by tipping Emma Lavelle's Pawn Star at Aintree, but he was so impressive when winning at Exeter last time out, being eased down to win by seven lengths, I couldn't not back him. The handicapper has given him another 9lbs for that success, but I am still not convinced that is enough to stop him today. His first win over fences was at the end of August, he won that day off a mark of 109, today he runs off 125 such has been the recent improvement.

His only loss over fences to date was when he tried to go three miles and two furlongs on his penultimate run finishing third, he looked a tired horse at the finish making a mistake at the last and losing second place on the run in. But his return to three miles last time saw him back to his best and Daryl Jacob again takes the ride which is another positive - the 33-year-old has partnered him in all his chase races so will know exactly what he has beneath him today.

13:40 Aintree - Back No Comment @ 11/10

Barry Geraghty will hope for a better afternoon on No Comment than the last time they partnered up. Geraghty was on board the well backed son of Kayf Tara in a Grade 2 last time at Chepstow when, he was unseated after just the second jump, a race won by El Bandit who you may recall won again in the Class 2 race on Friday at Cheltenham. Who knows if No Comment would have been good enough to beat El Bandit that day but he was certainly well supported in the market to do so.

I am fascinated to see how he gets on today, he is short enough in the book at 11/10 but dropping down in class and obviously held in high regard by the J P McManus team. I just get the feeling he could be well ahead of his rivals today and as long as the jockey and horse partnership stays intact, he could be very hard to beat.
