Bets Of The Day: Go Giddy for a filly with potential at Ripon

Sunday's racing is a mixture of flat and jumps, and Alan Dudman has two selections - one for an in-form trainer at Stratford, and a pick at Ripon...

"The three-year-old was sent off 5/2 favourite in a warm nursery, and for whatever reason she just didn't pick up - whilst her more experienced stablemate Donjuan Triumphant landed the spoils. Giddy looked useful when winning on her first start at Beverley, and she can get back on track this weekend."

14:50 Stratford - Don't be left feeling Blue with April

Trainer Jeremy Scott can safely be labelled as a 'hot handler' at the moment. His form figures with runners since 5th May reads: 12614161, with a pair of those winners hacking up (and one producing a personal best).

Blue April has to improve on what we have seen so far, but a big step up in trip from the minimum to 2m6f might just do that.

The five-year-old runs from a mark of 102, but he hasn't really been able to show himself in a good light so far. Refusing to race at Ludlow didn't help last term, and in two subsequent handicap runs at Wincanton and Haydock, he was beaten by 10 and 11 lengths.

However, one of those was a test of speed, and with the headgear still on; a new trip might do the trick for a bang-in-form yard. Hopefully there'll be no silliness like he showed when whipping around before.

15:35 Ripon - Giddy to put rivals in a spin

Trainer Richard Fahey will no doubt be pre-occupied with Birchwood's run in the French 2,000 Guineas at Deauville on Sunday, but he sends Giddy to Ripon, and she's a filly with plenty of promise.

She'll be starting for the second time in a handicap (here she takes on fillies only), and she is clearly much better than her effort at Ayr when last seen.

The three-year-old was sent off 5/2 favourite in that warm nursery, and for whatever reason she just didn't pick up - whilst her more experienced stablemate Donjuan Triumphant landed the spoils. Giddy looked useful when winning on her first start at Beverley, and she can get back on track this weekend.

Bred by Cheveley Park, the daughter of Kyllachy has a really nice pedigree, whilst the assistant trainer to Fahey (Robin O'Ryan) said after her debut performance: "She's a filly we like a lot."

At around 4.507/2, she can show herself in a much better light from a mark of 77.
