Bets of the Day: Harry Fry can get the day off to a flyer with Opening Batsman
Alan was less than a length away from landing a big double but a profit was still achieved on the day. He has two more from Wincanton and Stratford on Sunday...
"going right handed on a this type of ground are his ideal conditions"
Opening Batsman has a great record at Wincanton
Opening Batsman may well be 13-years-old but he has shown he isn't over the hill just yet and going right-handed on this type of ground is just what the old boy would want. He might just get the race run to suit as well and if he gets into his usual rhythm he could be tough to beat.
Michael Legg is an accomplished rider, as well as being assistant trainer to Harry Fry, he is Opening Batsman's usual partner, having ridden him on his last 11 starts. He has won here on three occasions and hasn't been outside the first four in his last five runs here, both wins were off a higher mark than today and his second last time over today's course and distance would probably be good enough to win this.
Nicky Henderson runs Turtle Wars in this but he has been less than convincing in his three chase starts to date, failing to make the frame in each attempt. This better ground may be more to his liking but until he puts in a better performance I wouldn't be rushing to back him.
Next in the market is Poker School for Ian Williams. On his day he would certainly be a contender in this, but he hasn't been within five lengths of a winner since November 2017 and I am not sure if his heart is in it anymore.
Its All A Lark will be looking to make it another wire to wire win
Donald McCain may have found a perfect opportunity for Its All A Lark to get another win under her belt. The six-year-old mare has been a revelation since switching to handicap company over hurdles, winning two of her last three including a five length romp at Doncaster last time.
She loves to get out in front and dictate, if she manages to do that again today she may be tough to get past. She has another 7lb rise in the weights to contend with today but Donald's daughter Abbie McCain is in the plate and she is taking a very welcome 5lbs back off.
The Skelton team are in red-hot form and their runner here is Ratoute Yutty who was third home (11 lengths behind) when Its All A Lark won at Doncaster. She was very well supported before that race at Doncaster, eventually being sent off the 11/8 favourite. She is 10lbs off, meaning it should be much closer to the selection but I don't see any reason to think he can turn the form and needs to find a little more.
