Bets of the Day: Brave Eagle will be too good back in this class today
Alan managed to find a winner and a second (beaten a neck) from his two selections yesterday and today he has two more from Ludlow and Plumprton's jump cards...
"has three wins to his name from just six runs over hurdles and he comes into this race having won easy enough in similar events"
This race at Plumpton is a Class 3 Handicap Hurdle for conditional jockeys only and James Bowen looks to be the man to be with on the very worthy favourite Brave Eagle from the Nicky Henderson yard. He already has three wins to his name from just six runs over hurdles and he comes into this race having won easy enough in similar events so far. He did fail to reproduce his early promise in his last two starts though but there are excuses for them, they were two very warm and big runner (23 and 22 runners) handicaps at Cheltenham, this is a step back to what he was used to before Cheltenham both in class and number of runners, he has to concede weight to the other runners but back in this company he should be able to cope with that.
The biggest danger to the selection looks like being the Dr Richard Newland trained Whoshotwho, a horse Henderson will know well having trained him before he moved to his new home. The seven-year-old has made a bit of a habit of running well but not being able to get his head in front on the line, recently he went close at Sedgfield beaten just half a length and then last time out he went even closer to get beat by a neck at Hexham. A repeat of either of those runs should see him go well but he needs to do more at the death and I'm hoping it's another second to add to his current form list today.
Dan Skelton is running Workbench in this Handicap Chase after having a bit of a break, 122 days off after finishing fourth in what looks a decent Handicap last time out where the three runners that finished ahead of him have all come out and won, one of them multiple times. He is just a 1lb worse off at the weights today than when he last won at Sandown in December and has previously won off a mark 8lbs higher than today's so he looks very well treated in this company.
He has ran well here twice before finishing fourth and second despite both of those runs on ground that was far too soft for him. He encounters better ground today and he will have no issues over this trip. The Skelton team are also in good form and I think at 9/2 he has to be of interest and could go well today.
