Keepup Kevin started his three-year-old career in the best fashion winning a competitive handicap at Newmarket off a mark of 67 on soft ground. He was given a 6lb hike in the weights for that succes and since has ran three times but not really been able to reproduce that form. However, two of those runs I can accept as they were on good to firm ground and I am not sure that is to his liking. Today he returns to softer ground at Leicester and has dropped back to a mark of 71 which is still possibly a little high but certainly gives him a fighting chance.
Pam Sly is a shrewd trainer who may not have the biggest string to chose from but she does well with what she has, she has saddled three winners from her last six runners and I think she could produce another one today - A reproduction of anything close to that Newmarket form will see him win this.
Tom Dascombe runs Jersey Jewel in this amateur riders handicap at Windsor, she has a win and a second to her credit over this course and distance in the past. She is competitively weighted on that victory which came this time last year. A tongue strap gets fitted for the first time here after weak finishing efforts the last twice, that should allow her to see the race out far better and given her liking for the track and she is accompanied by her regular partner Miss C Greenway, who I believe is the owners daughter.
The best horse and jockey combination in the race is Maroc but I can't support a horse that still hasn't managed to get his head in front after nineteen starts, he is deserving of a victory and Nicki Evans has secured the services of top amateur Simon Walker in the plate. So while I expect Maroc to be there at the finish he always seems to find a way to get beat and at the prices I would rather side with Jersey Jewel.
