Bets of the Day: Teak wood be hard to beat if back to old form

Can Teak rediscover that old winning form?
Can Teak rediscover that old winning form?

After all the brilliant classic and group racing yesterday we return to a standard Sunday card and Alan has found a couple of interesting selections...

"This is the lowest quality of race that he has faced for some time"

Back Teak @ 10/1 Each Way in the 14:40 Bath

14:40 Bath - Teak @ 10/1 Each Way Sportsbook

Ian Williams runs Teak in this Class 4 handicap and a quick glance at his form would immediately have you looking elsewhere for a potential winner. However, digging a bit deeper into those numbers shows that his last two starts were at Glorious Goodwood and the Ebor festival at York in Class 2 company and while he was well beaten this is much easier contest and a big drop in class.

This is the lowest quality of race that he has faced for some time and when you think he was running into place money just 12 months ago in Conditions races and Class 2 handicaps at group one courses like Ascot and Goodwood. Any sort of reproduction of that form could easily be good enough to win this.

He is a double figure price for a reason though, and you have to go back two years to find the gelding's last win (on the flat), but when you do you will find that it was at this track in this very race off the same mark as he is running today (80). He was sent off the 2/1 favourite when he won back in 2014, today you can back him at five times that price and with 10 declared runners, I think he is worth an each-way investment.

16:10 Ffos Las - Monotype @ 9/4 Sportsbook

Beaten favourite last time out Monotype can make amends for Roger Varian today, reverting back to one mile four furlongs on soft ground with a 1lb drop in the weights should be all the four-year-old gelding needs to get his head back in front again. His defeat last time out was over two miles and it just seemed to far, he was beaten a long way from home, eventually finishing sixth as he dropped away in the final furlong.

Andrea Atzeni gets the leg up and you couldn't wish for a more in form jockey in the plate, he is in excellent form, riding eight winners at Doncaster last week, four of which came yesterday. All his best runs to date have been on soft ground so should any more rain fall before the race that would only increase his chances.

Recommended Bets:

Back Teak @ 10/1 Each Way in the 14:40 Bath
Back Monotype @ 9/4 in the 16:10 Ffos Las
