No luck yesterday for Alan but he moves onto Goodwood today and has two selections from the West Sussex course to get his week going...
"She has won at six furlongs but is far more effective at the minimum trip, where five of her six wins have come, so it is encouraging to see her dropping back in trip today."
The ultra consistent Fredricka was just touched off at Newcastle on her first run for Chris Dwyer, possibly just being found out by the tough six furlongs at the track. She has won at that distance but is far more effective at the minimum trip, where five of her six wins have come, so it is encouraging to see her dropping back in trip today. All five of those wins were on the turf so while she has been predominantly aimed at the all weather tracks recently, she has no problem running on the more traditional surface.
The six-year-old mare has also won off 82 in the past so despite the additional 1lb she got for her latest effort, giving her a mark of 79, I don't think this would be enough to stop her going in today, and with top jockey Silvestre De Sousa doing the steering she looks all set for a good run.
Crafty Madam got up by a head to claim her maiden victory at the third time of asking at Salisbury a couple of weeks ago, she kept on well to claim that victory despite being strongly challenged in the final furlong by Cobalty Isle (who is down to run at Windsor tomorrow night). Admittedly there are a couple of unknown factors for the Clive Cox filly in that this is her first start in handicap company and she is stepping up to seven furlongs. However, her breeding and low-mileage profile suggest she can handle both those questions and that battling finish last time would have taught her plenty about the game.
Her main rival today looks like being Dark Destroyer, Joseph Tuite's colt has already won twice and been placed but those races were on the all weather, on the turf he has finished eight of 15 last time out at Newbury and prior to that he finished 10th of 11 runners in a Salisbury maiden beaten almost 20 lengths. The two are currently vying for market favoritism but my preference is withe the Clive Cox filly today.
