Alan continues to try and find a winner in Ireland and has two selections from Punchestown which he is confident will get him back on track...

"He won a 22 runner maiden hurdle a couple of weeks ago and the nature of that win suggests he could be well worth following "

Chosen Mate to make it four in a row for Gordon Elliot

Punchestown 14:20

Betfair Ambassador Gordon Elliot runs Chosen Mate in this decent Novice Hurdle and he knows exactly what it takes to win this race, having won it for the last three years. In his betfair column (click here) he accepts that this is a tougher task for his charge but he also says he "expects him to run well". Chosen Mate won by five lengths on debut at Fairyhouse in a 22 runner maiden hurdle a couple of weeks ago and the nature of that win suggests he could be well worth following. There is every reason to expect to see an improved performance today.

Prior to his hurdle win he was also successful at the point-to-point level, winning at just his second attempt. Davy Russell is a positive jockey booking and the six-year-old holds entries for the Supreme, Albert Bartlett and the Ballymore at the festival, he looks a worthy favourite to me but there are some others he will have to take care of. The biggest danger looks like Prince D'Aubrelle from the Willie Mullins yard, the nine-year-old has never finished outside of the top two, winning his last three starts. His latest win was in May 2018 where he defied a 949 day layoff at Tipperary so despite being off the track for another nine months, he has to command respect.

Time for Impact Factor to finally get his win

Punchestown 15:50

Mrs Harrington looks to have a good chance of claiming this chase with Impact Factor, the seven-year-old may have take a bit of time for the penny to finally drop but his last three races have seen him improve. He was only just beaten in a Grade 2 contest in February and last time out was beaten just four lengths by the promising chaser Cilaos Emery, who was rated as high as 153 over hurdles, has won his only chase start to date and is a single figure price for the Arkle, the fourth home in that race has also since come out and won just to frank the form of that race.

Impact Factor, should take all the beating here and can finally get his head in front at the seventh time of asking over fences, especially as he is getting weight of the previous winners in the field. The biggest danger looks likely to come from Riders Onthe Storm who has been running in much better company than this in his two attempts over fences so far, he is considerably eased in grade today and is the main concern.
