The final day of Glorious Goodwood looks to have some extremely competitive handicaps, but Alan has found a couple that he thinks could run well...
"This is the colts first attempt in handicap company and I am sure he will prove to be better than the mark of 88 that he has been given today"
Minding is the undoubted star on the final day of the meeting, but at 1/4 I would suggest looking elsewhere for a bet...
George Baker runs his lightly-raced colt Mamillius in this three-year-old handicap. This is the colt's first attempt in handicap company and I am sure he will prove to be better than the mark of 88 that he has been given today. His racecourse debut came at Windsor where, in July 2015, he ran a decent second beaten only half a length, he didn't then reappear until May of this year where he finished down the field in a Newbury maiden, where the first three home that day have all come out and won since.
He finally got his head in front last time out at Salisbury, winning by three-and-a-quarter lengths going away at the finish. The horse he beat that day (Marbooh) has since come out and won on the all-weather at Newcastle during the Northumberland Plate meeting. Steve Drowne rode a winner for George Baker last night at Bath, so let's hope the same combination can get Mamillius in the frame at least today.
Sir Michael Stoute won this race last year with Dartmouth and has been successful in this race three times out of the last ten renewals. Today, he has two runners in the race, Shraaoh and Shabbah and both look to have decent chances. However, of the two it is Shraaoh that I will be backing.
Shraaoh, the son of Sea the Stars, was backed as if defeat was out of the question in the King George V stakes at Ascot, but he twice got blocked and had to check back in that race losing all momentum and eventually finished second last. Frankie Dettori may have only ridden one winner so far this week but he has had four seconds and a string of other close finishers, I think this might be one that can give him another Goodwood winner.
