Alan landed his bet of the day yesterday and looks to continue that form today with two bets from the final day of this year's Ebor festival...
"I think the Goodwood race was better than this and the son of Sea The Stars had a few of these behind him that day and I don't see any reason why he wont confirm that form today."
I put the Sir Michael Stoute colt Shraaoh up as a selection when he ran very close last time out at Glorious Goodwood (see here) I am not about to desert him now. I think the Goodwood race was better than this and the son of Sea The Stars had a few of these behind him that day and I don't see any reason why he won't confirm that form today.
There is plenty to like about Shraaoh, he is stepping up in trip an extra two furlongs which I think will be to his advantage as he was doing all his best work at the end of the race at Goodwood and Frankie Dettori, who gets on well with the horse gets the leg up again today. Having ridden the horse three times previously, I think it's time Frankie steered him home. My only concern is the ground, more rain is due to hit the Knavesmire overnight and tomorrow and all his best form to date has been on good/firm ground.
17:05 York - Laughton @ 4/1 Sportsbook
Laughton from the Kevin Ryan yard is another horse that impressed at Goodwood where he held on to win the Class 3 Tatler Stakes off a mark of 79. He gets a 4lb rise in the weights for that win but the three-year-old colt seems to enjoy running with cover in these big fields, his three wins to date have come in 11, 16 and 19 runner handicaps.
The Ryan yard know what it takes to win this race, they did so two years ago with Online Alexander, when today's jockey Kevin Stott was in the plate. Online Alexander had previously just won a Class 3 event over five furlongs at Glorious Goodwood, so this is a familiar pattern to today's charge. The main danger in the race looks to be the hat-trick seeking Midnight Malibu who also comes here with winning Goodwood form and beat the selection at Chester the time before that. I would rather be on Laughton today though.
