No winners for Alan yesterday but he is looking to put that right with these two selections from today's meeting at York...

"Today's extra furlong is going to suit him massively"

14:05 York - Back Chelsea Lad @ 7/2

Martyn Meade runs Chelsea Lad back at York today and he will be looking for a bit more luck than his charge has had this season. The four-year-old was made favourite to make a successful return after almost a year off the track in April's Spring Cup at Newbury, but was pulled up by Ryan Moore after going lame. He then came to win his race on his only outing at today's track but jockey Richard Kingscote lost his whip at a crucial time, it got knocked out of his hand and was left riding hands and heels to finish second in a race he could have won.

He's lightly raced for his age and wasn't beaten far in the Cambridgeshire last time out, finishing fourth doing his best work late on. Today's extra furlong is going to suit him massively and with his current mark more than fair, providing he has no more bad luck in running he looks like he can take this contest. He's only a pound higher than the Cambridgeshire so he has to be in the shake up here and upped in distance he should be tough to beat.

14:40 York - Back Staxton Each way @ 8/1

Market Leader Shabaaby won well on his latest start at Doncaster and is the most definitely the one to beat here but at even money he has a couple of questions still to answer and I prefer to look elsewhere in the field for something that will run him close or maybe even get ahead of him and my attention was drawn to Tim Easterby's charge Staxton as a much more attractive option. He has course form when he run fifth in the Gimcrack and that race is working out very well with four of the other runners either having come out and won or been placed in their next starts.

He was set a tough task on his latest run in Group 2 company but still ran a creditable race, today he drops into Listed class which could be much more his level. He remains with potential and gets conditions in his favour today at [9.0] I would rather give him a chance to make the frame and perhaps even upset the short priced Shabaaby.
