A cracking day's racing today and Alan has two selections from the action at Ascot and Lingfield, that both qualify for the Betfair Sportsbook 3/1+ offer...

"the step back up to one mile four furlongs should suit him today and he is exactly the type of horse that his trainer excels with"

Back Mirage Dancer @ 4/1 in the 14:50 Ascot

14:50 Ascot - Back Mirage Dancer @ 4/1

This looks a strong renewal of this Listed race but I want to go with Sir Michael Stoute's Mirage Dancer. This son of Frankel colt ran against the likes of Benbatl and Cracksman in group company as a three-year-old. He won't be up against anything of that quality today and it is of interest that connections decided not to have him gelded over the winter so I assume they must think he has more to come as a four-year-old.

He had some very useful form last season, where he was third in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot and third to Cracksman in the Great Voltigeur at York. If anything he seemed to find the one mile two furlong trip too short at Doncaster last time out and therefore the step back up to one mile four furlongs should suit him today and he is exactly the type of horse that his trainer excels with.

The one to beat looks like being the Roger Varian trained Barsanti who looked an improver last season as a five-year-old, third in a Listed race at Goodwood last May, he backed that run up when a very good second in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot.

15:40 Lingfield - Back Tomyris @ 4/1

The Group 3 Chartwell Stakes is always a decent contest and the 2018 renewal looks no different with a number of decent fillies in the line up. The current favourite for the race is One Master who encounters this going for the first time and that has to be a bit of a concern. She won a Listed race at Ascot last October, beating the well touted Bletchley but that win came on good to soft ground, her other victory was also on soft, there is nothing to suggest she can't go on firm ground but I think at the prices I would prefer to see if I could find something to beat her.

That quest led me to Frankie Detorri's mount Tomyris, a winner at Listed level last year as well as a place in a Group 3, she is versatile with regards to ground. She goes well fresh winning on fast ground first time up last season and she was also only beaten six lengths by Winter in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. Last time out she was out of her depth in Group 1 company at Newmarket but this is much more her level and I expect a big run from her today.
