Bets of the Day: Mitchum Swagger will love conditions today at Haydock

Let the rain fall at Haydock today
Let the rain fall at Haydock today

Predicting the weather at the minute is almost as difficult as finding a winner but on a busy Saturday of racing with eight meetings across the UK and Ireland it is the Haydock card that has drawn Alan's attention with two runners who will enjoy the rain...

"he is at his best on this going and he loves the track with a win and two places in just three visits and has the assistance of Ryan Moore in the saddle. "

16:05 Haydock - Back Mitchum Swagger @ 7/2

With the ground currently soft and the forecast predicting plenty more rain on its way today you have to think it could well be heavy and will definitely place a massive emphasis on stamina. The one that catches my eye is Mitchum Swagger who has won over a mile, he is at his best on this going and he loves the track with a win and two places in just three visits and has the assistance of Ryan Moore in the saddle.

The current favourite is Breton Rock he ran a cracking race last time in the Lockinge and has great form on soft ground and some may say Mitchum Swagger has plenty to find with Breton Rock on that Lockinge running. However, Breton Rock was ridden to place and came late after the race was fought out to finish third, Mitchum Swagger actually tried to live with Ribchester and was put in the race properly only to fade late on. Given this race is two Grades below that race he faces nothing of the quality of Ribchester or for that matter of the second Lightning Spear and he will appreciate the step down in trip on possibly heavy ground.

15:30 Haydock - Back Ajman Princess @ 9/4

Ajman Princess can continue her fine return to form with another victory at Haydock this afternoon. Although, her latest win was on fast ground she has also shown us she handle soft ground as she ran a superb race to be second to Even Song in the Group Two Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot last year. She is still progressing and she can take this Group 3 before going onto maybe bigger and better things.

Her biggest danger could be the French raider Bateel who has progressed into a smart mare and the rain will certainly improve her chances but Roger Varian's four-year-old has won both starts this season and was very impressive when winning a decent listed race at Goodwood last month by five lengths, she looks like a filly on the upgrade and is more than capable of carrying on that winning streak today.
