Bets of the Day: Its time for Lustros to get that winning feeling again

Lustros has the class to win this for David O'Meara
Lustros has the class to win this for David O'Meara

No luck for Alan yesterday on his return but he is looking to get his week up and running with today's selections at Ascot and Newmarket...

"Lustros last won over two years ago, but it was in listed class at the Knavesmire and she ran second in the Lancashire Oaks last year."

Back Lustros @ 9/2 in the 17:10 Newmarket

17:10 Newmarket - Back Lustros @ 9/2

David O'Meara's five-year-old mare may not have won for over two years, but Lustrous did run her best race since moving to O'Meara from Richard Hannon last time out, when she was tried in handicap company for the first time. She ran third of eight that day in a decent handicap at Doncaster, missing out by just two lengths and the second placed horse (Kiltara) has since come out and won a similar event to this.

As stated her last win was over two years ago, but it was in listed class at the Knavesmire and she ran second in the Lancashire Oaks last year. So dropping into handicap company may just be what the mare needs to get her confidence back.

Connections are in for an additional £25,000 bonus if she can land this and have booked top jockey Silvestre De Sousa to get the job done. Even though he is trailing Jim Crowley, with only two weeks to the end of the jockeys championship, he won't be giving up just yet and at 9/2 I think Lustros is worth siding with.

14:00 Ascot - Back Mise En Rose @ 5/1

The Godolphin filly Mise En Rose should take all the beating in this Ascot opener. Charle Appleby's runner finished a close second at Doncaster last time out in Group 3 company and has already beaten the early market favourite, John Gosden's unexposed improving filly Eternally in a Newmarket handicap.

Eternally (rated 100) is an obvious danger but off level weights Miss En Rose (rated 106) should have the beating of her again. Miss En Rose has run three times over seven furlongs this season winning once and finishing second in the other two (both Group 3's). It could well be that the unexposed Gosden runners (as well as Eternally he also runs Dazzling Rose) have improved beyond what we have seen so far but I would rather side with the form in the book than potential and for that reason I will be backing Mise En Rose.

Recommended Bets:

Back Lustros @ 9/2 in the 17:10 Newmarket
Back Mise En Rose @ 5/1 in the 14:00 Ascot
