Is Daahyeh destined for the Breeders Cup
15:00 Newmarket - Daahyeh
Initially I looked at this race wanting to find something to beat the favourite, Roger Varian's filly Daahyeh but the more I looked at the race the more I fancied her. She won her first two starts, initially here and then followed that up by winning the Group 3 Albany at Royal Ascot and she has run two excellent races in defeat since, second in both a Newmarket Group 2 and latterly second in a Group 1 at the Curragh just a couple of weeks ago. That form sets her above the rest of the field and she is most definitely the one to beat.
Interestingly, she also had an entry for the Cheveley Park Staes on Saturday but the trainer has made no secret of the fact that a potential target for the filly is the Breeders Cup at Santa Anita on Friday 1 November. The winner of this race is guaranteed a place in the field for the $1 million Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf over a mile. I think he fancies his chances of landing this and then heading stateside.
There are some decent horses in the line up though that she will have to get the better of, namely Festival Day for Mark Johnson, she has been sent off favourite for both her starts and while she's looked a very promising type thus far, this requires a huge step forward to trouble the selection on the bare figures. Under The Stars ran behind Daahyeh in the Moyglare, and I can't see any reason for her to turn that around.
Data Protection can make the most of her weight adavantage
17:20 Newmarket - Data Protection
The one to side with in the final race of day two is Data Protection for William Muir, he was a winner at Epsom three starts ago and finishing second at both Epsom and Pontefract subsequently, where he was only beaten a head. He's 2lbs well-in at the weights as he is due to go up for future races and the more than capable James Doyle takes over in the plate, he looks to have a very good chance of finishing ahead of his rivals in this.
One that could give the selection the most to do is Escape The City who ran a very creditable sixth of 19 in this race last year and looks well treated off 8lb lower this time round and has a very good 7lb claimer in the shape of Angus Villiers. She regained the winning feeling at Brighton on her latest outing and the third boosted that form when scoring here last Saturday. Although she has gone up four pounds for that win, she still remains fairly treated on past form and has to be respected.
