Sir Valentine to rule
13:50 Wetherby - Sir Valentine
Sir Valentine should go close in this interesting novices' hurdle.
This gelding put in a much improved effort when beating Young Lieutenant at Newbury earlier this month. He swept to the front on the run-in and pulled clear to win with any amount in hand. I was taken by this performance, and now that he has found the winning thread should move forward again. At present he is trading at 3.8514/5 on the exchange.
Proschema is the market leader at 2.9215/8. He beat Cheddleton in good style over this course earlier this month, but benefited from the fall of the favourite at the last. He is another improver, but I think the selection has a more progressive profile.
A good Idea
17:40 Kempton - One Idea
I am going to take a chance with debutant One Idea in this novice stakes.
This Dubawi colt is out of the Dam Rose Diamond who was Group placed in England, and ran creditably in Grade 1 company in the United States. He is also a half-brother to the talented mare Real Smart who won a Grade 3 for Graham Motion. He ticks a lot of boxes and should be ready to outdo himself at first asking. At present he is trading at 3.953/1.
Boccaccio is the odds-on favourite at 1.9620/21. He was sent off favourite on debut, and did not disappoint when beating Dramatic Sands at Yarmouth in the spring. He deserves his position at the head of the market, but I think the selection could be a cut above.
