A trip to Nottingham beckons for Alan Dudman - and he has two bets at nice prices for the action at Colwick Park on Wednesday....
"He made the running at Bath on good to soft ground and he won with a fair bit in hand from a mark of 70. With a 5lb rise, I am not too disheartened as he has the look of a sprinter that can improve even more."
Wednesday afternoon with the Palladium
There will be a short price about Roger Varian's Surfman for this maiden. He was chalked up at evens last night on the Sportsbook and could give freshman sire, Kingman, another winner after a brilliant start.
As a stallion, Kingman is producing horses with good minds that are not short of speed. Although Surfman shaped like a stayer on debut, I am not that keen on backing him at cramped odds.
More interesting is Martyn Meade's Palladium. He ran in soft conditions on his debut last month at Goodwood and got the hang of things in bad ground following a slow start. He was green in that race too.
He could be one to look out for in the Place market here, and I expect this juvenile from a good yard to improve a fair bit on his second run.
Oyster not for catching in sprint handicap
This 5f handicap looks a competitive race, I was taken by the performance of Our Oystercatcher last time at Bath. He's the one to back at [8.40].
The 4yo hasn't stood much racing and is now with trainer Mark Pattinson - who has got a tune out of the horse in his two runs for the yard at Sandown and Bath.
He made the running at Bath on good to soft ground and he won with a fair bit in hand from a mark of 70. With a 5lb rise, I am not too disheartened as he has the look of a sprinter that can improve even more.
With form on good to soft, he will appreciate any of the forecast rain. Expect him to bounce out early from the front as he does hold early speed.
