Bets Of The Day: Fanning can enjoy a good evening at Newcastle

Jockey Joe Fanning rides both Lopes Dancer and Leeshaan at Newcastle

Alan ends his stint in the tipping chair and signs off with a pair of selections at Newcastle on Thursday evening...

"It was a perfectly good run from the horse last time over course and distance in a 0-60. He came from a little too far back and was a touch unlucky."

Back Leeshaan @ 4.57/2 in the 20:00 at Newcastle

Lopes can dance to victory with a shorter trip

16:05 Newcastle - Back Lopes Dancer @ 6.05/1

The diet of all-weather racing continues, and hopefully we can convert the many placed efforts this week into a victory. I am perhaps guilty of overlooking the Place market at times, but we'll stick to our guns here with Lopes Dancer.

This is a straightforward case, as the horse didn't really see out the 2m at the track last time. It was a good run, but he looks a suspect stayer at around that distance; especially at Newcastle.

He ran very well over course and distance in December behind Loud And Clear. It was a better grade than Thursday's race and he finished second from a mark of 71. He is only 1lb higher in a weaker event this evening.

Expect him to sit on the pace and he'll be happier dropping in trip to 1m4f.

Well handicapped Leeshaan the pick to sign off with victory

20:00 Newcastle - Back Leeshaan @ 4.507/2

Sticking with the racing in the north east, and Leeshaan can warm us up on what is likely to be a bitterly cold night. I certainly don't miss playing football in this weather.

Leeshan is trained by Rebecca Bastiman, and I'm a fan of hers as she has shown plenty of times that she can get a win out of a well handicapped runner. The selection is certainly that from 56 tonight. He was rated 81 two years' ago when with James Tate.

It was a perfectly good run from the horse last time over course and distance in a 0-60. He came from a little too far back and was a touch unlucky.

He's unexposed on the all-weather with just four runs and a stiff 6f looks his best trip. I am hoping to sign off the week with a victory (and not a second).
