Bets of The Day: Nicki's Nipper can go one better this time at Sedgefield

Sedgefield offers the only jumps action today

Just the two cards to choose from today with the jump meeting at Lingfield being abandoned, nothing stands out at Wolverhampton but Alan has found two interesting runners at Sedgefield...

Back Nicki's Nipper @ 5/2 in the 14:35 Sedgefield

14:35 Sedgefield - Back Nicki's Nipper @ 5/2

Samantha England runs Nicki's Nipper in this handicap hurdle and based on her second here eight days ago over course and distance she could go well for the Yorkshire stable that is in form. Essentially a flat bred horse, Nickis Nipper showed precious little for her two previous yards, but has won twice for the England team, with hubby David England in the saddle. This trip looks the limit of her stamina and while I certainly wouldn't consider backing her over much further she does seem to like it around here and always puts in a bold showing, not finishing outside the first four in all four starts at the track.

Richard Johnson is an eyecatching appointment for the Henry Oliver trained Murray Mount who is next in the betting, and while the first time blinkers could well help, I think Johnson he will need all his powers in the saddle to get him home in front off a mark of 100, having been beaten by a total of 57 lengths in his last two starts. Nicki's Nipper looks a better option to me, I think she is on a decent mark based on her second here eight days ago and can go one better today.

15:35 Sedgefield - Back The Drinkymeister @ 9/2

Kim Bailey only runner today is The Drinkymeister, the Bailey team don't tend to frequent Sedgefield very much but when they do they are worth taking a look at, over the last 12 months they have only sent six runners to the course but three of them have won.

The Drinkymeister should relish conditions in the two mile five furlongs Handicap Chase. His last win was at Wetherby under today's jockey David Bass (who is travelling up for one ride) in similar conditions at Wetherby in April last year, he then had a 234 day break before returning to the course and being well backed before the off last time out at Hexham but was pulled up a long way from home.

The market suggested that better was expected from him after he won so well at Wetherby, I am prepared to give him another chance today with the cheekpieces back on and put the Hexham run down to a combination of bottomless ground and the lack of a recent run. This handicap certainly looks winnable over what looks his best trip, both his wins have come over similar distance and he does go well on the forecast soft ground.
