Alan's best bet of the day hit the winners enclosure yesterday producing a healthy return for the day. Today he has two selections from Windsor and Ripon...
"George Villiers will continue to improve and I can't see him losing tonight"
John Gosden's excellent summer is due to continue
John Gosden has been in superb form this season and I can't see any reason to oppose his runner in this Windsor handicap, I wouldn't want to be backing him any shorter than the 6/4 on offer at the time of writing but I think he wins. George Villiers, is a smart three-year-old son of Dubawi colt who ran on strongly last time out to score by a neck. The handicapper has only put him up 1lb for that effort and he is likely to keep on getting better with more racing. Add to that he has the more than capable Robert Havlin in the saddle and it's hard to see what can beat him this evening.
There are four horses to beat in the race, Mushtaq is going to need to produce a career best carrying a top weight of 9st 9lbs. Running Cloud is in decent form having produced three placed efforts from his last three starts, however he looks one paced and I don't see him winning this. Cuban Heel finished a distant sixth at Goodwood recently and then at Sandown when beaten a comfortable three lengths in first time blinkers, that form doesn't look good enough to win this to me. Finally Khazix was behind Running Cloud recently and although is 2lbs better off this time around, that will put him closer to Running Cloud but I still don't see either troubling George Villiers.
Sheepscar Lad can go one better than last time
Nigel Tinkler's Sheepscar Lad won on his seasonal debut by a short head after a 230 day break but has been unable to record another success since then. However, he was a shade unlucky last time at Pontefract when beaten just a head off today's mark, on that run he has a big chance of writing that wrong here today especially with the booking of Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle.
The danger could well come from course specialist Pipers Note, who has a 100% record at the track from seven starts including winning this race back in 2014 and winning here last time out. He clearly loves it round here, but he is up 5lbs for that latest success although he has won off 9lbs higher than his current mark in the past so he is a leading player and while he carries a major threat, I just think that Sheepscar Lad will get the better of him today.
