Bets Of The Day: Loose Ends to hit number one at Windsor

Prince Khurram's near miss yesterday at 1.25 in-running was another frustrating second for Alan Dudman - who turns his attention to an in-form yard on Monday...

"She's raced in three maidens at Chelmsford from 10f to 13f, and having been held up in all three (latterly off a dawdling pace), she's had little opportunity to show her true worth. Connections might think she's a stayer, having tried 1m5f on her just her third start."

15:20 Wolverhampton - Keep it simple with Simon's Zanjabeel

Three-year-old gelding Zanjabeel showed plenty of ability on his debut at the track in April behind Andrew Balding's filly White Poppy. The winner had two runs prior to that victory, and Zanjabeel was a little bit unlucky in the race when checked in his run. His conqueror that day has gone on to score recently at Salisbury from a mark of 81.

However, I'm a bit more interested in his latest effort - when chasing home Guy Fawkes at Redcar - who was easily the best prospect on the entire card that afternoon. My selection tried to make a race of it, but just met a potentially smart one.

Today he meets a couple of runners with official ratings of 74 and 78, and I would like to think there's still improvement to come - especially at a track he's already shown he handles.

I also like the angle of him stepping up a further two furlongs in trip, as there is plenty of stamina in the pedigree on the dam side. Surely Zanjabeel can make up into an 80 plus horse given the new distance?

19:55 Windsor - A good ending in store for Loose

I'm old enough to remember the band Loose Ends from the 1980s, and in the golden age of music - they produced a cracking track called 'Hanging On A String'. Astonishingly it charted at only 13 nearly a quarter of a century ago. The song would absolutely clean up now against the likes of Sheeran and Adele.

There are only seven runners that lock horns in the 19:55 fillies' handicap, so I'd be a touch disappointed if the equine version where to mirror the chart position on the track.

Loose Ends is trained by David Simcock, and there's no hotter yard in town at the moment. He's bagged 14 successes from his last 33 runners sent out, and is averaging nearly a winner a day from the last two weeks.

The filly's profile is somewhat curious coming to her first turf start. She's raced in three maidens at Chelmsford from 10f to 13f, and having been held up in all three (latterly off a dawdling pace), she's had little opportunity to show her true worth. Connections might think she's a stayer, having tried 1m5f on her just her third outing.

This daughter of Authorized makes her handicap debut from just 62 and she also receives a weight allowance - in what looks a winnable race.

And whilst it's wrong to bracket all sons or daughters of Authorized will want juice in the ground, I'm happy to have her on side rather than against in soft conditions.
