Bets of the Day: Spes Nostra can make it six wins at Wolverhampton

Both of Alan's selections received market support yesterday but neither ran well, today Alan has selections from Plumpton and Wolverhampton...

"Today he is dropped in class, back up in trip and has the excellent Lewis Edmunds taking an additional 5lbs off his back and looks like he will take all the beating."

16:25 Wolverhampton - Spes Nostra @ 5/2

Iain Jardine runs Spes Nostra again at Wolves today, the nine-year-old has won five times around the track and although it has been almost a year to the day since his last win, that was off a mark 11lbs higher than he is running off today, his last five wins have all come off a higher mark than he gets in today with. He ran a decent race last time out finishing fourth of eight here over a shorter trip than ideal a couple of weeks ago, today he is dropped in class, back up in trip and has the excellent Lewis Edmunds taking an additional 5lbs off his back and looks like he will take all the beating.

There doesn't appear to be much in the way of opposition, the next in the betting is Medicine Hat for Mrs Marjorie Fife who has won here on his only start at the track but that was off a mark of 64 (his highest winning mark) and he is running off 73 today, so will have to put in a career best run. Heart Locket is another possible contender, owned by golfing pair Chubby Chandler and Lee Westwood, but he has failed to get his head in front at Wolverhampton in eight starts and has only been within four lengths of the winner on one of those occasions. Spes Nostra looks to have an excellent chance to add to his already impressive Wolverhampton record today.

16:35 Plumpton - Minella Gathering @ 4/1

I want to give Minella Gathering another chance in this stamina sapping race at Plumpton, the Old Vic gelding was off the course for two and a half years before returning to finish runner up by just a length and a half to the now 106 rated Amantius. That was a terrific training performance by Paul Henderson and he followed it up with another placed run at Warwick on New Years Eve. His latest start however wasn't his best, he finished sixth of eight, beaten 47 lengths, and after the race Paddy Brennan reported that the gelding was never travelling and he was said to have scoped dirty.

I can't believe the Henderson team would run him again unless they thought he was over whatever caused him to scope dirty and perform poorly on his last start and a reproduction of anything close to that effort he put in against Amantius would surely be good enough to win this.
