Bets of the Day: Its Timeforwest to get back into the winners' enclosure.

Southwell summer jumps
Timeforwest is already a two time winner over this trip.

Alan was on the mark yesterday with Excellent Times at Pontefract, today he has another two more fancies running at Southwell in the afternoon and Windsor in the evening...

"she will have no problem with the trip or the going today"

Back Timeforwest @ 4/1 in the 14:45 Southwell

Time to back O'Neill's mare

Jonjo O'Neill runs his six-year-old mare Timeforwest in this three mile novice handicap and it is worth noting that she has already won twice over this trip. Her latest win was over two miles four furlongs back in March but conditions that day were soft/heavy in places and it took some getting, she will have no problem with the trip or the going today, having won three times on good ground. They have also put the cheekpieces on her today for the first time to keep her focused.

She faces five opponents today and the favourite, The Wicket Chicken, looks a worthy favourite but is plenty short enough at 6/4, despite winning here over hurdles previously and running well in defeat last time out at Huntingdon just going down by a neck. She has a 2lb rise in the weights for that second and like the selection has the first time cheekpieces on. Her only win over this trip was when winning a pointer back in May 2016 and she may not have the stamina at this level to see this out. Therefore, my preference today is for the proven stayer at more than double the price of the favourite.

Take the Path to victory

The best thing about a Monday during the summer months is Windsor races and there is another quality card to enjoy tonight. I am especially looking forward to seeing how Amanda Perrett's lightly-raced charge Desert Path does in this contest. The three-year-old is a previous winner here, winning impressively in May by four-and-a-half lengths and was desperately unlucky in-running last time out, failing to get a run when he was just about to start her challenge. Once the door closed on him, Pat Dobbs (who was the jockey that day) eased him down and wasn't too hard on the gelding, almost allowing him to come home in his own time, so I am happy to overlook that sixth-place finish.

Robert Havlin is in the plate today and providing she keeps out of trouble, she can make the most of a very handy 4lb drop in the weights and record his second career victory at the track.
