Alan Thompson returns today with a selection from the feature race at Windsor and also one to follow in the last race of the day at Carlisle...
"She has now won 50% of her starts and all those wins have been over today's trip of six furlongs"
This is a decent Listed sprint at Windsor tonight and I like the look of Andrew Balding's Dancing Star, she looked a very good filly last season winning four of her six starts including taking the Stewards Cup at Glorious Goodwood. She has now won 50% of her starts and all those wins have been over today's trip of six furlongs. She was a bit flat on her return in the Group 3 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket at the beginning of this month but again that was over the minimum trip against 5f specialists so she can be excused that run.
There are some interesting runners in the field, the market favourite is Mr Lupton and he got the better of Dancing Star in a valuable York handicap last summer, where he beat her by half a length and it would be an impressive training performance if Dean Ivory can get Tropics involved in the finish, having been off the course for 660 days. It's a quality race for a Monday night but I think it is maybe time for Dancing Star to rediscover her form from last season and back over her favoured six furlongs, she gets the vote.
James Given's five-year-old mare La Fritillaire looks to have a good chance of following up her success at Ripon last time out. The handicapper has only put her up 2lbs for that win and I think she is probably better than the rating of 63 suggests. She was a multiple winner last year and found the two miles five furlongs too much of a test on her return this season at Pontefract, back over two miles today is much more to her liking.
She looks the one to beat in this contest as her two closest competitors in the betting are both returning to action after lengthy breaks. La Bacouetteuse hasn't raced since October and received a 5lb hike in the weights for winning at Musselburgh and Frederic has been off the course six months, so this looks an ideal opportunity for La Fritillaire to get her head in front again for the Given team.
