Bets Of The Day: Jump aboard the Colin's Brother bus at Newbury

Nigel Twiston-Davies trains Colin's Brother - who runs at Newbury on Friday
Nigel Twiston-Davies trains Colin's Brother - who runs at Newbury on Friday

Following on from the superlative tipping of Alan Thompson this week (taking his total profit to over 30 points), our other Alan resumes duties for his seven days, and starts with two bets on Friday...

"Granted this is a better contest, but Nigel Twiston-Davies' horse could be well-handicapped from 118, especially given the promise shown early in his career, and the fact he can improve over fences."

Back Colin's Brother @ 7.06/1 in the 12:55 at Newbury

12:45 Doncaster - Come on now, do the Lowcarr Motion

Micky Hammond struck with a double at Sedgefield this week, and he could have a chance to bag his third winner in the space of a few days with Lowcarr Motion at Doncaster.

This looks an extremely open handicap over hurdles, and they could well be betting 4/1 the field come race time.

The selection didn't quite last in the stamina stakes recently; having made his seasonal reappearance over 2m6f at Wetherby last month. He may be worth another shot at that distance given the way he has shaped in the past, but I'm certainly happy with him reverting to a shorter trip at Doncaster.

The galloping Town Moor venue will certainly suit, and given his best performance came last term on good ground, he should have ideal conditions to perform well.

Young Finian O'Toole's seven pound claim is an added bonus, and 13/2 on the Sportsbook rates a good price in an open race.

12:55 Newbury - Hatch a plan with Colin's Brother

A horse with an overall career record of 0-10 shouldn't really be screaming off the page to be backed, but Colin's Brother should run well in the 12:55 at Newbury.

The five-year-old had quite a bit of ability as a bumper horse, but completely lost his way in a short hurdling career. However, there was great encouragement to be gleaned from his chase debut at Stratford recently over 17 furlongs, where he finished second behind Johnny Og (who is two from two at that venue).

Colin's Brother shaped as if he needs more of a test, and he'll get that at the Berkshire venue - with soft going over a furlong extra.

Granted this is a better contest, but Nigel Twiston-Davies' horse could be well-handicapped from 118, especially given the promise shown early in his career, and the fact he can improve over fences.
