Alan Thompson is back in the tipping chair for the next seven days and he is kicking off his week with two selections from Ascot and Newcastle...
"His four races on good ground have seen him win and finish second on the other three occasions."
The only real blemish on this three-year-old colt's record was his last and only run at Ascot, where he wasn't given a hard ride in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot. I don't think anything was right for Fighting Temeraire that day and I doubt we will see him again on anything softer than good ground. His four races on good ground have seen him win and finish second on the other three occasions.
He won at Newmarket(good) on his last start, bouncing back from his poor Royal Ascot experience. Dean Ivory decided not to take his charge to York due to the rain forecast and was entered in the listed Doncaster Stakes (pulled out due to soft ground). Despite going up 4lbs for his Newmarket win he could still be well handicapped off 93 and I think he will be ready to go again today.
The shrewd Sylvester Kirk could have found a good chance for his juvenile Zamadance to claim his second victory under the steerage of Jim Crowley. We last seen Zamadance in a class two event at Goodwood where he wasn't disgraced finishing fourth. Today, he lines up in this class six handicap at Newcastle, and he could be well-in running off a mark of 62.
His only other previous win to date was on the polytack at Kempton, but I suspect the tapeta surface won't be too much of a disadvantage. Neither will the step up to the straight mile at Newcastle, he was running on at Goodwood over seven last time out and finished second the time before over 10 furlongs at Bath.
