"Once considered for the Derby, Charlie Appleby's Godolphin owned son of Dubawi I am sure had bigger targets than Class 2 handicaps when they purchased this colt"
It is time for the impeccably bred Firnas to justify that eye popping 1.6 million guineas purchase price in this handicap at HQ. Once considered for the Derby, Charlie Appleby's Godolphin-owned son of Dubawi I am sure had bigger targets than Class 2 handicaps when they purchased this colt, but after just three starts a win here will prove his class and hopefully lead him on to bigger and better contests. He won his maiden on his second and only start of 2016 and returned this season with a ninth here over course and distance.
There is, of course, decent opposition he will have to overcome tonight if he is to be successful, mainly in the shape of What About Carlo who is on the same mark as when he was third last time out and UAE Prince is another with a big reputation. But with William Buick doing the steering again tonight on Firnas, they will both have learned plenty from their last outing, where he ran far too keen early on to show his best, I expect him to show his class and potential tonight and providing he does, he will take this race.
This Class 2 five furlong handicap will no doubt be fast and furious and there are plenty in with good chances, the 2016 winner Orion's Bow has obvious claims as he bids to make it back-to-back victories, he and Line Of Reason met at Musselburgh last time and both are capable off these marks. However, if they go hard enough in front, I think it could set the race up for Rasheeq to finally claim an overdue win. He has been running well this season without getting his head in front and with 12 races under his belt, he is due a bit of luck.
He showed huge promise on all three artificial surfaces as a juvenile before embarking on a turf campaign. He had no luck in running last time but with the suspected strong pace tonight and on this stiff five furlongs I think the race could play to his strengths. I am a bit disappointed that I missed the earlier prices as he has already been supported in the market and the way he runs he needs that bit of luck to find the gaps at the right times, but at 5/1 he is still big enough to shows a small profit if he just fails to get his head in front.
