Bets of the Day: Charlie Appleby's Radjash can go one better today

There is some excellent maiden action at Town Moor today

Alan Thompson starts his week in the hot seat with two interesting runners from the seven furlong maiden races at Doncaster...

14:35 Doncaster - Back Radjash @ 2/1

This Godolphin colt made a promising start to his career, when chasing home the more experienced Intimate Art over seven furlongs at Kempton earlier this month. Radjash was well supported that day being sent off the 6/4 favourite and I would expect after that experience will be better today. Charlie Appleby's derby entry is well bred and I am sure will be popular in the market again.

I am sure there are going to be plenty of winners that will come from this maiden but the one that Radjash should fear the most is probably Sir Michael Stoute's runner Swiftsure. Owned by the Queen, Swiftsure has a very similar profile to Radjash, being well bred, holds a derby entry and finished runner up in his only start. However, I think he will be better over the longer distances and today I prefer the Godolphn horse.

15:10 Doncaster - Back Mirage Dancer @ 3/1

Mirage Dancer makes an eagerly anticipated start to his career in this maiden, this son of Frankel will also have the assistance of the best jockey in the business Ryan Moore to steer him around on his debut. According to all the gallop reports he is a real eye-catcher of a horse, with an already powerful physique. His breeding suggests he will take all the beating and his half brother Forge won over course and distance earlier this year and has been improving ever since.

The betting market will no doubt give out the clues to the race and any market support would be very interesting. I would be concerned if that market support came for the John Gosden horse Valcartier, who cost 950,000 euros as a yearling and the Gosden team have won this race twice since 2011. Again this is a race that will produce many winners in the future but the Frankel offspring have been superb for the first season sire and I will be backing Mirage Dancer to continue that form.

Recommended Bets:

Back Mirage Dancer @ 3/1 in the 15:10 Doncaster
