Alan Thompson had a great stint in the chair last time accumulating over 17pts profit, today he returns with two selections from the Newmarket and York meetings...
"the stiff seven furlongs on offer here looks ideal for him and he now has Ryan Moore booked to ride"
War Glory can turn the tables on Swift Approval
Swift Approval for the Stuart Williams team is back to try and reclaim his crown after winning this this race in 2016, he was also fourth in last year's renewal, a race where he finished a length and a half ahead of Richard Hannon's five-year-old War Glory. However, I think War Glory can turn the tables on the current market leader and claim what will be his third career victory. The son of Canford Cliffs has been in good form, running well over a mile on three of his last four starts but just failing to get his head in front, the stiff seven furlongs on offer here looks ideal for him and he now has Ryan Moore doing the steering, so I think today could be the day.
Another that could run a big race is a horse I tipped up last time when he run at Newcastle, Gallipoli. He's a decent type and managed to finish second over this trip that day and he runs off the same rating today. However, that was on the All Weather, his recent turf form hasn't been great and his record in handicap company is now just one win from 14 starts. So in this company on turf, I much prefer the Hannon and Moore combination to get the job done today.
It could be time for Pacify to go in again
The Ralph Beckett team are in good form with a 24% strike rate over the last two weeks and I think they can add to that impressive recent record. Their runner Pacify looks like the one to be on here, he may not have been in the winners enclosure for just over three years now but his second in the Queen Mother's Cup over course and distance last month shows that it may not be too long before he finds his way back in there. If he is to win this then he will have to reverse the form with Mister Belvedere who beat him that day by a neck, got everything going his way in that Lady Amateur riders race and is now running off a career high handicap. This will be somewhat different today and with Daniel Tudhope on board I can't see Pacify finishing ahead of Mister Belvedere.
A bigger threat could be last year's winner Mukhayyam, it looks like he might get a soft lead today and his form has improved recently, he went off far too fast in the Queen Mother and was always going to get caught, but if he can get the fractions right he could be difficult to pass. The biggest issue for Tim Easterby's charge is that he is 7lbs higher than he was in this last year, he has improved but that may be asking a bit too much of him.
