Bets of the Day: Donald McCain is going for Glory at Warwick

Hurdle Action
Bannixtown Glory is looking for her third win in five career starts

Alan Thompson has two more selections from Warwick and Lingfield as he looks to finish off a profitable week in the tipping chair in style...

"She gets in here of an unchanged mark of 112 and she looks the one to beat."

Back Bannixtown Glory @ 5/2 in the 16:45 Warwick

Bannixtown Glory can improve past these

16:45 Warwick - Bannixtown Glory

Donald McCain's five-year-old mare Bannixtown Glory can make it back-to-back wins this afternoon. The mare was just held off in a handicap hurdle at Cartmel on her penultimate outing, while I am sure she is destined for longer trips (she has won over three miles pointing) that race seemed to extend her stamina just a bit too far at this stage of her career. She was much better last time returning to just over two miles and winning ways at Sedgefield last time and runs again today over a similar trip.

This looks a slightly better event than she won at Sedgefield but she has won twice this term and has every chance to improve past these rivals today. Importantly, she gets in here of an unchanged mark of 112 and she looks the one to beat. The biggest threat looks to be Sid Hoodie for Charlie Mann who held on gamely to win at Uttoxeter last month and despite a 4lb rise in the weights, she could go well again but I think the improving Banixtown Glory will be too good for her.

Godolphin's Imperial Empire can show his class today

14:10 Lingfield - Imperial Empire

It's eye catching that William Buick has just the one ride at Lingfield this afternoon and it is for Charlie Appleby's improving type Imperial Empire. The colt made a winning nursery debut, off a mark of 75, last time out beating Forbidden Land with a career best performance at Sandown. That victory came as no real surprise though after he finished second behind the very talented stable companion Al Suhail the time before at Yarmouth.

I expect to see him step up again today as the step up to a mile looks sure to suit and ensure he remains ahead of the handicapper. He's only been given a 3lb rise in the weights for that last success and I don't think that will be enough to stop this son of Dubawi over this trip. The only doubt is that this is his All-Weather debut but there is no reason to think he won't act on the surface.
