Bets of the Day: Boater will set sail for home early at Beverley

Alan started his week in the chair with a winner and a second from yesterday's two selections, today he has a triple header from Beverley, Salisbury and Cartmel...

15:00 Beverley - Boater @ 5/2 Sportsbook

Mark Johnston's two-year-olds are in excellent form, he has won with 23% of his juveniles this year and Boater looks to be the next one to add to that stat. She was very impressive when winning her opening race at Kempton over the minimum trip, when she was eased down in the final furlong to win by seven lengths. She was though beaten last time out at York but that was in listed company and was only just touched off by Vona at 33/1.

She can make the best of a favourable draw today and I would expect Joe Fanning to get her out early and see if the rest can catch her. Assuming things go to plan I would imagine Boater's next appearance would be at Royal Ascot.

18:50 Salisbury - Dark Shot @ 5/2 Sportsbook

Dark Shot drops back into maiden company today after mixing it in a class two handicap at Newmarket last time out. He wasn't disgraced though, being sent off a 14/1 chance he finished fourth of 11, beaten under four lengths. Today he looks set to break his maiden tag at the eighth time of asking. From his seven starts he has been placed in four of them and has twice gone close at this track.

Andrew Balding's charge is running today off the same mark as last time (81) and with Edward Greatrex on board taking a handy 5lbs off, he looks to have plenty in his favour.

17:00 Cartmel - Eshtiaal @ 11/4 Sportsbook

Eshtiaal was well punted at the Grand National meeting when set to run over this distance before Gordon Elliot withdrew the horse due to soft ground. Today he gets the chance to run on good ground over that same distance. All three of his hurdle wins have been on good going but this is the first time he has ventured beyond two miles five furlongs.

Also, I think the booking of Richard Johnson is interesting, although I hope he gets on better with him than he did the last time he was on top. Johnson last rode the horse at Perth in April 2015, when Eshtiaal was sent off the odds-on favourite, he dipped at the start and dumped the champion jockey on his backside.
