18:40 Kempton - Back Next Life
Trainer Saeed bin Suroor's juveniles have moved up a notch recently. Since September 23rd, the stable has sent out five two-year-old winners - including first time out fillies First Victory and Dubai Fashion. The latter absolutely pulverised a field at Wolverhampton last night, whilst First Victory's all-the-way win at Newmarket was impressive.
I've mentioned it before (it's an indulgence of mine with these royal blue silks), but Godolphin can mop up some of these midweek Kempton cards, especially with their late fillies, and they seem to have an endless supply of blue-bloods to unleash.
It's not everyone's metier to back a newcomer, but the two horses with ratings in the race have official marks of 75 and 68, so Next Life wouldn't face a huge task to get off to a winning start.
It's a slight worry she was withdrawn at Wolverhampton recently before the race, but I would never lay a newcomer from this yard at Kempton at near 5/1 - I'd much rather be a backer.
20:10 Kempton - Back Carrington
This nursery could be quite a good race, and I am hoping the larger field will help Carrington settle.
The two-year-old's record cannot really be faulted, as he has been fairly consistent this term with victories at Chelmsford (5f) and Goodwood (7f). In fact, the run in Essex earlier in the year suggested he had the potential to make a Pattern class performer.
He races from a mark of 88, and whilst on turf he is very solid, he could have a bit more improvement to come for the return to an artificial surface.
His latest effort at Doncaster should have resulted in a win, as his keen-going tendencies cost him, as well as the (usual) slow start. A better pace here is crucial, and hopefully he'll put in a decent show as I think this horse has a lot of ability.
