"...everything looks set fair for another big run from this consistent sort..."

Timeform on Geronimo

12:50 - STUNG FOR CASH (12) was understandably no match for a potentially exceptional sort in a Uttoxeter bumper last month, and is interesting now upped in trip tacking timber for the first time. Off The Hook unquestionably sets the standard on her latest third in a listed event at Haydock and should go well again, with Glinger Flame open to improvement, for all his temperament is under suspicion.

13:25 - Ex-pointers ASK BEN (1) and Speak of The Devil make most appeal here, with the first-named taking preference with the benefit of a fitness edge coupled with the fact that his recent Newcastle success has been boosted by the runner-up subsequently. Pieceoftheaction, who also has experience between the flags, could go well at a bigger price.

14:00 - DESTRIER (1) justified strong support in making a winning start over fences at Southwell, beating 4 subsequent winners in the process, so he should prove a tough nut to crack. Sam's Gunner was the best of these over hurdles so may emerge as the biggest threat ahead of Reivers Lad.

14:30 - GERONIMO (2) was a game winner of his penultimate outing at this venue and improved again when finding only too good at Kelso last time, likely to have given the winner even more of a race if he had jumped a bit better (made several mistakes). Sandy Thomson's charge has a further 4 lb rise in the weights to contend with this afternoon, but he is still the one to beat on weight-adjusted ratings, with further progress on the cards (remains relatively unexposed as a staying chaser), and everything looks set fair for another big run from this consistent sort.

15:05 - WELL ABOVE PAR (4) was a ready winner of his penultimate outing at Hexham, and though failing to meet market expectations, he ran at least as well when second over the same C&D last time, him and the winner (who has gone in again since) pulling well clear of the remainder. That form leaves Well Above Par 3 lb clear of the field on weight-adjusted ratings, and with several good efforts to his name around this track, there is no reason why he shouldn't mount another bold bid, with the break he has been given since a couple of quick runs in his favour.

15:40 - Making his handicap debut, VALKENBURG (13) ran the best race of his short career over hurdles to date when sixth here 12 days ago, making some late headway to be beaten less than 10 lengths. The way he finished his race suggests that this longer trip will prove right up his street, and it would be no surprise if there was an even bigger effort in this lightly-raced sort's locker, with Brian Hughes taking over in the saddle for the in-form Keith Dalgleish yard (three winners from last eight runners under both codes).

16:10 - AMBEROSE (2) hasn't pulled up any trees in four career starts so far, but the fact she was heavily backed to win a bumper during the summer has to count for something, and given the yard she represents, a much-improved showing now handicapping could be on the cards. Jessiemac's runner-up effort here last time isn't a solid piece of form but she's a threat, along with Bracka Lily.
