Timeform pick out the three best bets at Ascot on Friday...
"...rates very much the one to beat according to Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings..."
Timeform on Beholden
Berkshire Rocco - 14:30 Ascot
Berkshire Rocco produced a career-best effort when making Galileo Chrome pull out all the stops in the St Leger at Doncaster, seeming to relish the extra emphasis on stamina as he stuck to his task in determined fashion (beaten just a neck). That form comfortably sets the standard here on Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings, so he is fancied to take advantage of the drop in grade to gain a deserved first win of the season, representing the Andrew Balding yard that continues in good heart (77% of horses running to form). Albaflora and Without A Fight are feared most of the remainder.
Tiger Crusade - 15:05 Ascot
Tiger Crusade wasn't seen to best effect when third over this course and distance last time, conceding first run to the winner and doing well given how things developed to finish as close as he did, putting in some good late work to be beaten only two lengths. He's still relatively lightly raced and remains one to follow from only 1 lb higher, especially if getting a stronger gallop to aim at (shapes as if he'll stay further and is usually held up in his races). Dirty Rascal and Ebury are fancied to emerge as the chief threats.
Beholden - 15:40 Ascot
Beholden shaped much better than the bare result when second on his handicap debut at Lingfield 10 days ago, ultimately going down by just a length after being forced to deliver his challenge from further back than ideal in a steadily-run race. He is 1 lb out of the weights here but still rates very much the one to beat according to Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings, so this looks a good opportunity for him to get off the mark, especially if finding more improvement. Rochester House is next best for the Mark Johnston yard that has won two of the last eight renewals of this race.
