This week has yet to really fire for Alan Dudman, who is turning to a pair of big priced fillies running at Windsor and Southwell on Monday, but with risks attached....
"I'm banking on a return to the fibresand to revive her, and we shouldn't write her off just yet. She is lightly raced and big in frame, so there is certainly more to come."
20:00 Windsor - Back Ttainted Love
Tainted Love of course is one of the great Northern Soul tracks, copied, but never equalled. The record was actually brought to these shores when DJ Richard Searling started playing the Gloria Jones song in Bolton and the Wigan Casino.
Searling's excitement at discovering such a gem won't be matched in finding the winner of Windsor's 20:00, but hopefully we can unearth a little gem of our own and I'll play the song in honour.
Ttainted Love makes her first start in a handicap from a mark of 70 and is one of a couple of three-year-olds in the line-up. Her trainer Chris Wall has enjoyed a reasonable July, and she can certainly build on her three runs to date.
She was pitched into a rather good maiden on second start, and her latest run was an eyecatching effort. She made a mid-race move at Doncaster, and was going just as well as the horse who finished second that day. She wasn't given a hard time of things, and there's a chance she will like some cut in the ground being by Mastercraftsman.
With nine runners (at the time of writing), she's an each-way price at 8/1.
This is a really interesting runner at a decent price - but be warned, there are risks attached with Bacall.
Described as backward, immature and a slow learner, some races haven't been too kind to her. She missed the start at Windsor by ten lengths (but was running on), she was slow away on debut, whilst her latest outing was a complete catalogue of horrors at Wolverhampton; she stumbled and nodded leaving the stalls, and then was forced completely wide.
However, there is a bright spot. She has won at Southwell before and tanked through the race over the far side in taking her maiden. A drop back in trip for Monday will also suit.
Basically she has ability but there have been problems on the track. I'm banking on a return to the fibresand to revive her, and we shouldn't write her off just yet. She is lightly raced and big in frame, so there is certainly more to come. Plus she is trained by Kevin Ryan, who is in rip-roaring form at the moment.
And finally, a little plug for the Glorious Goodwood podcast elsewhere on this site. Just click the link to save you searching;
