Another busy afternoon for Gordon Elliott as the Betfair Ambassador saddles 11 runners at Thurles on Sunday, and here you can get the exclusive lowdown on them all...
"This is obviously a hot race and she has plenty of opposition, namely Kate Appleby Shoes but stepping back in trip and getting the age allowance I think she's one of the best chances of the weekend, she is in serious order at home and I'm looking forward to the race."
- Gordon Elliott on Dinaria Des Obeaux
Askari has been very disappointing on both of his starts for us and under top weight today looks to be up against it again - looking at the positives he's in good form at home and with two runs over hurdles now he should have come on for the experience but he will need to pull his socks right up to trouble the judge today.
Pete So High is a four time flat winner who has made a pleasing start to his career over hurdles so far with two good runs last month. He ran quite keenly at Leopardstown last time out so I hope he can settle today and if he does he's in with a nice chance under Jack Kennedy.
Dortmund Park stayed on well to win at Fairyhouse earlier this month on heavy ground, Davy had said the ground was a bit of a struggle for him but he did it well and he's still quite green and raw so will come on from it a huge amount. He retains the tongue tie that seemed to help the last day and with the step up in trip he's in with a nice chance although Willie's two runners look dangerous.
Icario has been consistent enough but is yet to get off the mark and is becoming quite frustrating, he ran well over course and distance this time last year and has Liam McKenna on board claiming a valuable 7lb so he has no excuses today and I'd hope he can finally get his head in front!
Miracle In Medinah didn't show his best last time out at Leopardstown, he steps back in trip here today which should help but he will need to improve a good amount, he's a lovely big horse who goes well at home so I hope he can start to show that on the track.
Cubomania has won well on both starts for us and the change of scenery really benefit him, as it does lots of horses. He's a gutsy sort who didn't mind the testing conditions on either start so he goes here again with a very nice chance off a low weight and having Jack Kennedy retain the ride is a nice plus for him.
A Toi Phil takes on the Grade 3 Kinloch Brae Chase which we of course won twice with Don Cossack. This looks an ideal race for him, he will love the trip and the ground and he is in rude health at home, with just five runners in this he looks to have a serious chance - I'd be wary enough of Willie's horse American Tom but our lad has plenty more experience and that could just clinch it for him.
Dinaria Des Obeaux is a mare I really like, she's not the biggest but has plenty of guts and loves a bit of heavy ground. This is obviously a hot race and she has plenty of opposition, namely Kate Appleby Shoes but stepping back in trip and getting the age allowance I think she's one of the best chances of the weekend, she is in serious order at home and I'm looking forward to the race.
Minella Till Dawn unseated last time out after a less than perfect show of jumping, he is still big and green so will improve for having a few runs over fences and he has been doing plenty of schooling at home but he will need to tidy up his jumping if he is to progress and our other runner looks to have the upper hand.
Fire In His Eyes is a horse that doesn't show much at home and is quite lazy, he doesn't mind the heavy ground although all three of his wins were in better conditions. While he's not going to be the stable star I don't think his first chase win is far away and with the addition of cheek pieces I hope he could go close today.
Ourmanmassini has been an unbelievable Point to Pointer, now the winner of nine races he was crowned Champion Point to Pointer for 2017. He goes here with the added benefit of Anthony Fox's 7lb claim and although there are horses in this with plenty of ability he beat Gilgamboa by a head last month and he's spot on at home so he goes with a very nice chance.
