There's another very busy Sunday on the cards for Gordon with a dozen runners in action across Navan and Thurles, get his exclusive thoughts...
"Poli Roi is last but certainly not least as he is another with some promising form, he finished third in the Grade 1 Champion Bumper at Punchestown last season and has taken to hurdling well this season finishing second on his penultimate start and winning comfortably at Down Royal last month."
The verdict on my 10 runners at Navan...
12:15 - Rakhine State
Rakhine State jumped well enough at Clonmel earlier this month on his hurdling debut, he will come on for that experience and I'd expect to see some improvement today from the four-year-old. He definitely has a couple to beat, one being Gran Geste who he finished fourth to at Thurles in October but I would like to see him finish in the placings.
12:45 - Three Runners
Cracking Smart is one of three representatives for the yard for this Grade 2 Hurdle of just six runners, he has been very impressive and shown versatility over varying trips with his last three runs being comfortable wins. This will be the biggest ask from him so far but it's the next step for a horse I think a lot of and I'm looking forward to him running.
Delta Work has held his own in some decent races since joining the team, his latest a third place in a Grade 3 here at the end of last month finish just under a length behind second placed horse Jetz who he faces again here today. He steps up into Grade 2 company today but I think he's well able for the challenge and I expect to see another great performance from him in conditions he will enjoy.
Poli Roi is last but certainly not least as he is another with some promising form, he finished third in the Grade 1 Champion Bumper at Punchestown last season and has taken to hurdling well this season finishing second on his penultimate start and winning comfortably at Down Royal last month. We are very lucky to have three runners in this, a string of very nice horses have won this in the past including Death Duty and No More Heroes so it would be great to take home the trophy again!
13:20 - Diamond Cauchois
Diamond Cauchois ran very well in a Grade B at Naas last month to finish a narrowly beaten third, he is the type of horse who will come on a huge amount for having a run under his belt as he is quite laid back at home so that will have blown away the cobwebs and I hope he can get his head in front in a race that looks ideal for the six-year-old.
Rightdownthemiddle can't manage to replicate his better form and has been running quite poorly recently. He will have to show a huge improvement to trouble the judge here today but on his best form he would be more than capable of collecting some prize money in a race like this it's just he isn't the most consistent so it would be hard to see him finish ahead of Diamond Chauchois.
13:55 - Blow By Blow
Blow By Blow needed a couple of runs after a long layoff and was just pipped to the post last time out by 66/1 shot Discorama which was obviously a bit of a surprise! He will be hugely suited to this step up in trip today and if all goes to plan I would be very hopeful of him getting back to winning ways.
14:25 - Milsean
Milsean returns after a break for this 2m4 Novice Chase. He will need to show some improvement over fences as although not completely disgraced his three chase runs haven't exactly blown us away. He has, however, won at Navan twice and is a point-to-point winner so with a bit of luck the break has done him the world of good and we can see better from him today.
14:55 - Robin Des Mana
Robin Des Mana was involved in some acrobatic antics at Clonmel earlier this month and held on well to win despite the incident. He did jump slightly left so going the other way today will suit and he came out of the race in very good form so I can't see him being too far way again today.
15:25 - Two Runners
Felix Desjy has won both his bumpers for us and looks a really nice horse for the future, ultimately he is a three mile chaser in the making but for now he's doing everything right and I anticipate another very good performance from him today under Nina Carberry.
Rapid Escape is another who has impressed in his bumper runs, like Felix Desjy he has now won two and also finished a narrowly beaten fifth in the Land Rover Bumper at the end of last season. I feel we are very well represented between the two and they would be in good company to win this - previous winners include Don Cossack, Death Duty and Samcro!
And my two runners at Thurles...
12:30 - Fire In His Eyes
Fire In His Eyes finished a distant third here last month but he is a big slow galloping horse who doesn't show too much at home so could have just needed those couple of runs after his summer break. He tends to make a couple of small mistakes here and there but he will only improve with every run over fences and I'd like to see him finish in the shake up today.
14:40 - Realt Mor
Realt Mor is one of the yard's longest serving inmates and although he could never build on his 2013 Grade 1 win he has been a great horse to have around. Now a twelve-year-old he still loves the game and isn't without a chance to reverting back to hurdles in a hope to rekindle form with Keith Donoghue on board who does get the best from him.
